GithubIn the agricultural seedling cultivation process, manually inspecting each cell of the seedling tray for the presence of seedlings is not only time-consuming and labour-intensive but also yields low accuracy, making it difficult to meet the demands of large-scale production management.
To achieve automated seedling detection, agricultural equipment manufacturers employ SingTown's OpenMV intelligent camera image recognition technology. Utilising AI machine vision and computer vision algorithms, this system identifies whether each cell in the seedling tray contains a plant, enabling rapid statistical analysis and quality assessment.

The seedling detection system employs SingTown Technology's OpenMV intelligent camera image recognition technology to automatically ascertain the "seedling present" or "empty hole" status in the seedling tray, facilitating unmanned detection and statistical analysis.
The camera is installed approximately 50 centimetres away from the seedling tray, enabling high-precision detection for standard tray cells (approximately 25 millimetres by 25 millimetres). It captures images in real-time through computer vision algorithms and utilises edge detection, colour recognition, and feature extraction technologies to determine the presence and growth status of plants within each cell.
The system automatically analyses leaf morphology, colour differences, and shadow distribution in the image to accurately distinguish between "seedling present" and "empty hole" states. Detection results can be output via serial port or GPIO interface for controlling seedling replenishment machinery or generating data reports.
The OpenMV intelligent camera features edge computing and real-time processing capabilities, allowing for automatic detection and counting without requiring an external computer, with a single detection latency of less than 20 milliseconds.
The system's edge deployment advantage allows for its broad application in seedling centres, smart greenhouses, and agricultural automation production lines, facilitating intelligent and standardised management of seedling tray inspection.
Through SingTown Technology's OpenMV intelligent camera AI image recognition technology, the seedling detection system has undergone an intelligent upgrade from manual inspection to embedded AI machine vision recognition automatic detection, significantly enhancing agricultural seedling efficiency and quality control standards.
