GithubExposed soil piles are one of the most common and recurrent issues in dust control. Manual inspections cannot provide round-the-clock coverage, and violations often occur during inspection intervals. OpenMV enables continuous and traceable supervision through visual monitoring.

At construction sites, road renovation projects, and temporary soil stockpiling areas, uncovered soil piles—failing to meet the requirement of being covered with dust-suppression nets—are one of the major sources of dust pollution and a key focus of routine environmental supervision and law enforcement inspections by environmental protection authorities. In particular, under windy weather conditions or at construction sites with frequent vehicle entry and exit, exposed soil is highly prone to generating secondary dust, significantly affecting ambient air quality and residents’ daily lives.
Traditional environmental protection supervision methods primarily rely on manual inspections or unscheduled spot checks, resulting in intermittent oversight and practical constraints related to personnel availability, time costs, and inspection coverage. Once violations occur between inspection intervals, they are often difficult to detect promptly, and issues such as incomplete evidence collection and challenges in continuously tracking rectification processes may arise.
By deploying SingTown’s OpenMV smart camera, continuous and automated visual monitoring of soil stockpile areas at construction sites can be achieved. Once the camera is securely installed at an appropriate height and angle, it operates stably over the long term, continuously capturing on-site images to provide objective and uninterrupted data for environmental supervision.
OpenMV runs color recognition, texture feature analysis, and regional rule judgment algorithms in real time on the camera side, effectively distinguishing between exposed soil surfaces and dust-proof net coverage. By identifying the dust-proof net’s distinctive color distribution, mesh texture, and coverage integrity, the system determines whether stockpiled soil has been covered as required, thereby accurately differentiating between “compliant” and “non-compliant” conditions.
By integrating pre-defined key regulatory area rules, OpenMV can automatically determine whether critical soil stockpile locations are exposed. Upon detecting abnormal conditions such as uncovered or incompletely covered areas, the system can instantly output identification results at the edge device, trigger local alerts, or upload violation information along with timestamps to the regulatory platform, enabling rapid response and traceable management.
Environmental supervision can be achieved around the clock, in a quantifiable and traceable manner, without requiring frequent manual inspections. Leveraging OpenMV’s low-cost, low-power, and easy-to-deploy edge computing capabilities, this solution can be scaled across multiple construction sites simultaneously, significantly enhancing both the coverage and execution efficiency of dust control measures, thereby providing reliable technical support for intelligent construction sites and refined environmental supervision.
