GithubIn the factory automation monitoring environment, the status of production equipment is typically displayed on monitoring interfaces such as PLC or DCS screens. When the equipment status changes from "running" to "stopped" or an alarm occurs, if the site is unattended or the monitoring personnel are inattentive, it can easily lead to production delays or safety risks.
To this end, industrial automation system manufacturers utilise SingTown's OpenMV intelligent camera to construct a condition monitoring system based on machine vision and image recognition. This system conducts real-time detection of status areas on screens (such as colour changes and text variations) and automatically issues alert signals or alarms when abnormal conditions are detected.

Industrial automation manufacturers have developed a screen status recognition system based on the OpenMV smart camera, utilising AI image recognition, colour analysis, and OCR text detection technologies to achieve dynamic monitoring of industrial control interfaces. The camera is fixedly installed in front of the display screen, capturing images in real-time from designated status areas, such as text or colour blocks indicating "Running," "Stopped," "Alarm," and others.
The system utilises a colour recognition algorithm to monitor RGB changes in specific screen areas and combines it with an OCR algorithm to identify textual content alterations. Upon detecting a red alert block or text changes to "Stop" or "Abnormal", the system immediately outputs a high-level signal to the host computer or buzzer, triggering audible and visual alarms.
The system supports simultaneous monitoring across multiple regions (configurable with multiple detection frames), enabling independent deployment without modifying the existing surveillance system, thereby achieving independent visual detection and safety alerts for status changes.
This solution offers the distinct advantage of edge deployment: no need for PLC communication, simple installation, strong compatibility, and broad applicability in scenarios such as factory automation control rooms, equipment condition monitoring stations, and unattended production lines.
