GithubIn industrial parks and wastewater treatment systems, the quality of water entering the pipelines directly affects the load on subsequent treatment processes and the lifespan of equipment. Traditional turbidity sensor detection methods suffer from issues such as complex installation, susceptibility to contamination and failure, and slow response times, making them difficult to adapt to the complex environments of multi-source mixed-flow inlets. To address this, environmental equipment manufacturers plan to introduce SingTown Technology's OpenMV intelligent camera visual detection technology for real-time monitoring of water turbidity at the inlet of wastewater pipelines.
The system is fixed above or on the side of the pipeline via a camera, capturing real-time images of the incoming water flow. It assesses water clarity based on parameters such as brightness, color contrast, and texture distribution. When the detected turbidity exceeds the set threshold (e.g., reduced grayscale, uneven brightness, or dense impurity distribution), the system automatically outputs a high-level signal to trigger a relay, enabling device linkage for alarms or automatic activation of the drainage mechanism. This solution significantly enhances the intelligence and response speed of sewage monitoring while reducing maintenance costs.

The Industrial Sewage Monitoring System is an industrial wastewater visual inspection system developed based on the SingTown Technology OpenMV platform. It deeply integrates machine vision algorithms, image recognition, and industrial control systems, successfully achieving intelligent identification and real-time control of water turbidity at pipeline inlets.
The system captures water flow images via a high-sensitivity image sensor and utilizes built-in algorithms to extract features such as average brightness, pixel variance, and color distribution, enabling real-time detection by the integrated algorithms.
When the water body is detected to exhibit low brightness, high contrast, or a distinct gray-brown distribution characteristic, it is determined to be in a "high turbidity" state, and a high-level signal is immediately output. The signal can directly drive a relay module, linking to activate pumps, valves, or alarms, alerting maintenance personnel to promptly address the anomaly.
In industrial sites with significant ambient light variations, the system also supports automatic exposure and adaptive regional threshold functions, ensuring stable recognition performance both during the day and at night. Additionally, the camera features an IP protection rating design, enabling long-term operation in humid and dusty environments.
Compared to traditional turbidity sensors, this solution does not require direct contact with water, avoiding issues of corrosion and contamination. Additionally, the edge AI detection response time is less than one second, supporting continuous video recognition mode, making it more suitable for dynamic monitoring of fast-flowing and frequently changing water currents.
This solution, developed based on SingTown Technology's OpenMV, is suitable for scenarios such as sewage treatment equipment manufacturers, environmental monitoring enterprises, and industrial park water quality management units. It can be integrated with PLCs, microcontrollers, or industrial gateways to achieve edge deployment, enabling an intelligent closed loop of image recognition and automatic control. This helps enterprises build a low-cost, efficient, and precise water quality monitoring system.
