GithubExposed soil piles are one of the most common and recurrent issues in dust control. Manual inspections cannot provide round-the-clock coverage, and violations often occur during inspection intervals. OpenMV enables continuous and traceable supervision through visual monitoring.

Uncovered soil piles at construction sites, road renovation projects, and temporary stockpiling areas—where dust suppression nets are not deployed as required—are a major source of dust pollution and a key focus of routine environmental supervision and enforcement inspections. In particular, under windy conditions or in construction sites with frequent vehicle movement, exposed earth is highly prone to generating secondary dust, significantly affecting ambient air quality and residents’ daily lives.
Traditional environmental protection supervision methods primarily rely on manual inspections or ad hoc sampling, resulting in intermittent oversight that is often constrained in practice by the number of personnel, time costs, and inspection coverage. Where violations occur between inspections, they are frequently difficult to detect promptly, and there are also challenges relating to incomplete evidence collection and the difficulty of continuously tracking rectification processes.
By deploying SingTown’s OpenMV intelligent cameras, continuous and automated visual monitoring of soil stockpile areas at construction sites can be achieved. Once the cameras are securely installed at an appropriate height and angle, they operate stably over extended periods, continuously capturing on-site images to provide objective and uninterrupted data for environmental supervision.
OpenMV runs colour recognition, texture feature analysis, and regional rule evaluation algorithms in real time on the camera edge device, effectively distinguishing between exposed soil surfaces and dust-proof net coverage. By identifying the dust-proof net’s distinctive colour distribution, mesh texture, and coverage integrity, the system determines whether stockpiled soil has been covered as required, thereby accurately differentiating between “compliant” and “non-compliant” states.
By integrating pre-defined rules for key regulatory zones, OpenMV can automatically determine whether critical soil stockpile locations are exposed. Upon detecting abnormal conditions such as uncovered or incompletely covered areas, the system can instantly output identification results at the edge, trigger local alerts, or upload violations together with timestamps to the regulatory platform, enabling rapid response and traceable management.
Environmental supervision can be achieved around the clock, in a quantifiable and traceable manner, without the need for frequent manual inspections. Leveraging OpenMV’s low-cost, low-power, and easily deployable edge computing capabilities, this solution can be scaled across multiple construction sites simultaneously, significantly enhancing both the coverage and execution efficiency of dust control measures, thereby providing reliable technical support for intelligent construction sites and refined environmental supervision.
