GithubExposed soil piles are one of the most common and recurrent issues in dust control. Manual inspections cannot provide round-the-clock coverage, and violations often occur during inspection gaps. OpenMV enables continuous and traceable supervision through visual monitoring.

In construction sites, road renovation projects, and temporary soil stockpiling areas, uncovered soil piles—failing to comply with the requirement to be covered with dust-suppressing nets—are one of the major sources of dust pollution and a key focus of routine supervision and enforcement inspections by environmental protection authorities. Particularly under windy conditions or in construction sites with frequent vehicle entry and exit, exposed soil is highly prone to generating secondary dust, significantly affecting ambient air quality and residents’ daily life.
Traditional environmental protection supervision methods primarily rely on manual inspections or unscheduled sampling checks, resulting in intermittent oversight and practical limitations imposed by the number of personnel, time costs, and inspection coverage. If violations occur between inspection intervals, they are often difficult to detect promptly, and issues such as incomplete evidence collection and difficulty in continuously tracking rectification processes also arise.
By deploying SingTown’s OpenMV smart camera, continuous and automated visual monitoring of soil stockpile areas at construction sites can be achieved. Once the camera is securely installed at an appropriate height and angle, it operates stably over the long term, continuously capturing on-site images to provide objective and continuous data for environmental supervision.
OpenMV runs color recognition, texture feature analysis, and regional rule judgment algorithms in real time on the camera side, effectively distinguishing between exposed soil surfaces and dust-proof net coverage. The system identifies whether soil piles are fully covered as required by detecting the dust-proof net’s distinctive color distribution, mesh texture, and coverage completeness, thereby accurately differentiating between “compliant” and “non-compliant” conditions.
By integrating pre-defined rules for key supervision zones, OpenMV can automatically determine whether critical soil stockpile locations are exposed. Upon detecting abnormal conditions such as uncovered or incompletely covered areas, the system instantly outputs recognition results at the edge device, triggers local alerts, or uploads violation information along with timestamps to the supervision platform, enabling rapid response and traceable management.
Environmental supervision that is available around the clock, quantifiable, and traceable—without requiring frequent manual inspections. Leveraging OpenMV’s low-cost, low-power, and easy-to-deploy edge computing capabilities, this solution can be scaled across multiple construction sites simultaneously, significantly enhancing both the coverage and execution efficiency of dust control measures, thereby providing reliable technical support for intelligent construction sites and refined environmental supervision.
