GithubWhether propane tanks are placed in compliance directly impacts public safety, yet non-compliant behaviour is often sudden and concealed. Manual inspections cannot promptly cover all areas. OpenMV enables on-site detection of risks at the earliest possible moment.

In food and beverage establishments, storefronts along streets, and temporary business sites, improper placement of gas cylinders—such as positioning them near open flames, exposing them in public passageways, or placing them too close to heat sources or electrical appliances—constitutes a high-risk safety hazard in urban safety management. Leakage or tipping of such cylinders may easily trigger fire or explosion incidents, with severe consequences.
Traditional gas safety supervision primarily relies on manual inspections and complaint-based feedback, resulting in limited inspection frequency and difficulty in promptly identifying non-compliant placement practices—such as those occurring at night, during non-operational hours, or arising suddenly—leading to delayed regulatory responses.
The SingTown OpenMV smart camera is integrated to enable continuous and automated visual monitoring of the placement status of gas cylinders.
After the camera is deployed in the merchant’s kitchen, store entrances and exits, or key regulatory areas, OpenMV continuously captures video footage at the edge and precisely identifies gas cylinders using object detection algorithms. It also analyzes whether gas cylinders have been moved to non-compliant locations or entered high-risk areas by applying predefined safety zone rules, restricted area delineations, and safety distance assessment logic.
When a gas cylinder is detected outside the designated placement area, near a heat source, in a public passageway, or in an abnormal position, OpenMV can immediately perform on-device judgment and output an alarm signal, triggering on-site audible and visual alerts and notification displays, or reporting the incident to the urban management platform for rapid response and evidence collection.
Since both recognition and rule-based judgment are performed entirely on the camera’s edge device, OpenMV has minimal reliance on networks and cloud services, enabling continuous operation even in unstable network environments. This upgrades urban gas safety supervision from “passive inspection and post-incident handling” to “proactive detection and real-time alerts.”
